The Department of Computer and Information Technology (DCTI) was established following the decision no. 6180/29.07.2011 of the Rector of the University of Craiova.
The Department CTI was formed by bringing together the Department of Computer and Communication Engineering, and Software Engineering Department of the Faculty of Automatics old structure, Computers and Electronics, University of Craiova.
Research in digital electronic computers started in 1978, when it began to teach the course "Computer Engineering". The Department of Computer Science at the University of Craiova was founded in 1990 with the transformation of the old faculty of Electrical power in 3 faculties: Faculty of Automation, Computers and Electronics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Electromechanics. The coordination structure was called the Computer Science Department, which operated until 2000 when it was separated into two other departments: the Department of Communications and Computer Engineering and Software Engineering Department. In 1993 the Department of Computer Science taught in English was founded, with great impact on the labor market of Computer and Information Technology Department is in continuous development, involving people, resources and partners to the highest levels of quality .
